I usually like to take time to expound on the characters and sense of place in Coben’s novels, but this one is a bit different, and I think the less I say about the entire thing the better. Does the fact that the paternity test showed that David wasn’t Matthew’s father mean a) the victim wasn’t Matthew or b) just that David wasn’t Matthew’s father. Strange disappearances, dark secrets and intense mysteries unfold in this eclectic collection of crime thriller series based on Harlan Coben’s bestsellers. It’s a tense rollercoaster of danger, fear, recklessness, bravery and desperation and it has you on the edge of your seat. Nicky thinks that David did kill his son and that David’s father tried to protect him by planting the bat in the woods.Though this may not have been a favorite of mine from one of my go to authors, I still enjoyed the OTT ride! I guess I don't listen to the external voices, but the world is different, and so you have to reflect that," he said. Many thanks to author Harlan Coben, Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley for the much-appreciated digital review copy. Harlan Coben's strength is pulling the reader into the story with a unique plot and interesting characters.

Sure, there are some small parts that come across as a little unbelievable, but this just takes us back to the knowledge that this is Fiction.

I can’t say that I enjoyed Nathan Oates’s A Flaw in the Design (Serpent’s Tail), but I certainly read it at speed in a state of high stress and anxiety, as the tension built inexorably and I began to feel just as haunted (hunted? Photograph: Belga News Agency/Alamy Harlan Coben: ‘you can trust him to find a nail-bitingly exciting way out of the set-up he outlines’. When his former sister-in-law, Rachel comes to visit with a photo in hand, it sends David into a tailspin. It does become a suspend disbelief credulity stretcher but I just go with the flow as somehow Coben manages to get his readers to go along with his audacious plots and it is immersive escapist reading which is just what I need! Coben's books often feature fathers with lost children, and though this is a little predictable, it's a theme that tends to emotionally resonate and makes you root for the protagonist.
