Description

The motor has a 6-speed setting that allows users to choose between 800 – 3500 SPM. It also has 3 orbital settings to increase its versatility in various applications. Speed is measured in rotations per minute (RPM) and will either be a fixed speed or a variable speed. The much better choice is variable speed as it gives you much better control. It also allows you to use the right speed depending on what material you are cutting, such as soft woods, hard woods and metal. You also want a longer stroke length and anything over 200 mm is a great choice. The motor is a very integral part of the jigsaw. Lower powered motors offer lower strokes per minute (SPM), making them ideal for precision cutting materials with low resistance. Higher speeds help make cuts through tougher materials like steel and aluminum.

Size is kept compact thanks to the brushless motor. Even though it’s running on lower powered batteries, you’ll get great runtime as a result. Soft-start is also present which helps with control when you start a cut. The motor will give you up to 3000spm via the variable speed trigger. Stroke length is a respectable 23mm which translates into cuts up to 90mm in wood and 10mm in mild steel. Tool-free blade change, LED light, constant speed control and the ability to bevel left and right to 45º are also present. It also has a blade clamp technology that allows you to switch out blades without needing any tools. The Jigsaw has a variable speed control dial to enable the user to match the speed to the application for optimal cutting performance in a variety of materials.

Another important aspect while choosing the blade is the material they are designed for. This will ensure an improved stroke length through the given material without breakage due to the resistance offered by it. Soft no load" function automatically reduces the motor speed during idling to suppress the vibration of the machine body This also allows professionals with a requirement for outdoor work to use the product without needing a regular power outlet. The DJV182Z weighs just 5.8 lbs including the battery. As a result, handling this product is quite easy, requiring minimal user effort to maneuver it while cutting. A brushless electronic motor runs more efficiently than brushed types. This can help reduce the tool's energy consumption.

Soft no load" function automatically reduces the motor speed during idling to suppress the vibration of the machine body. The soft no-load feature seemed to be a clever feature at first. However, this negatively affected cutting performance, especially for lighter materials. The reduced resistance forced the machine to slow down, drastically increasing the cutting time. Thankfully, I was able to find a way to deactivate this feature eventually.

The large D-shaped top handle design allows users to comfortably move the device around. The anti-slip rubber pimples ensure the user has a proper grip and also minimizes the vibration felt by the user. This product is powered by 18V LXT batteries from the Makita lineup. These batteries come with a capacity between 1.5 Ah and 5.0 Ah, allowing for longer run times depending on your requirement. Visibility of the cutting line is one of the most important aspects while using a jigsaw. LED lights and dust blowers illuminate the line and clear the dust from the workpiece respectively. This helps maintain accuracy and allows the user to follow the cutting line with ease. After my hands-on experience with both these models, I found that they were very similar except for the one main difference I had mentioned above. They had similar features and user experiences, while also sharing similar issues with the soft no-load system. The Makita DJV182Z and Makita XVJ02Z are cordless jigsaws with brushless motors. There is only one major difference between the two models, which is listed below.

As a result, I could hook it up with the shop vac for cleaner surroundings. It also has a dust blower to clear the cutting line, improving visibility when the machine is in operation. If you can’t find the help needed on our DIY blog then why not head over to our forum where you can can help from both tradesmen and other DIY experts. The XVJ02Z too comes with the soft no load technology that helps users preserve battery life by reducing the motor speed when the machine is idle. It also helps minimize the vibrations felt by the user. In the next sections, I will be reviewing both these products from Makita individually. I will list the various features that stand out and also highlight their various pros and cons. Makita DJV182Z Jigsaw Review

Most models also come with variable speed settings for increased versatility and better precision across a wide range of jobs. A unique feature of this jigsaw by Makita, the soft no load system allows users to conserve battery when the machine is not in operation. When the sensor detects little to no resistance on the blade, the motor speed is automatically turned down. The Makita DJV184 is a top handle type cordless jigsaw powered by an 18v LXT Li-Ion battery (sold separately). The d ie-cast aluminum base plate can be swivelled by 45° on both sides. Lightweight jigsaw with low noise and low vibration. With bright double LED.I also faced issues with the soft no-load system, as I had to apply more pressure than I normally would for the machine to detect that I was actually cutting through something.
