Although primarily aimed at those with a yen for performance, his advice is useful for anyone wanting to better themselves. He determines to live in the current moment and even tells his grandchildren, "Don't look back, you'll trip over! I think while his snippets of advise are for actors, it can be transferred to any aspect of a person’s life. I really enjoy his readings and if you admire him as an actor, take a look on these books and, for sure, you will also admire him as a human being. He refers a bit to his time in the infantry, of which he observes almost everything is pleasant by comparison.

His wonderful personality, sense of humour and talent really shine through the pages and it was such a treat to read about his life. One of our best-loved actors, Michael Caine has starred in over 100 films in his six-decade career, spanning classic movies like Alfie, Zulu, and The Italian Job (the inspiration for the book title) to playing Alfred opposite Christian Bale's Batman in Christopher Nolan's blockbuster Dark Knight trilogy.

I might have given the book four stars for a bit of repetitiveness, but I found I wasn't qualified to credit Michael Caine's life with fewer than five. A British icon, hugely respected, knighted in 1992, with a load of nominations and awards, it is all the more impressive given he was destined to follow his father into fish mongering after his early life in Elephant and Castle in Southwark. Michael had seen Nolan's movie "Memento," and assumed this new film would also be something low-budget.

In reality, it has been one huge learning curve, from his unlikely beginnings as the son of a Billingsgate fish porter to pursuing his dream of being an actor, finding success and managing every twist, trick and turn to stay at the top of his game. My sense is that this one is more of an addendum to his previous books, which are more straightforward autobiographies (and keep being outdated as he continues to find success in old age).
